Bye Beige (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a home decorating website at byebeige.com, operated by Ayesha Jamil, based in Pakistan. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit the site, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to byebeige.com and to any email, comment or message you send us through the site. By using the site you agree to this policy; if you do not agree, please do not use the site.
Who we are and how to contact us
The site is owned and run by Ayesha Jamil. For any question about this policy or your personal information, use the form on our Contact page. We aim to respond within 30 days.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address, subject and message, so that we can reply to you.
- Comments: your name, email address, optional website, the comment itself, and your IP address and browser user agent string, which WordPress records to help detect spam. If you opt in, a cookie saves your name and email so you don’t have to re-enter them next time.
- Email newsletter (if offered): your email address and any preferences you select. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email.
Information collected automatically
- Log and device data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, screen size, language, the pages you view, the time and date of your visit, the page that referred you, and how long you stay.
- Cookies and similar technologies: small files stored on your device by us or by third parties we work with. Our Cookie Policy lists the types we use and how to control them.
- Analytics: we may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics to understand which content is useful. These tools use cookies and collect data such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device information. Google’s own policy is at policies.google.com/privacy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Information from third parties
- Advertising networks that serve ads on the site may collect data about your visit and your interests across websites (see “Advertising” below).
- Affiliate networks such as Amazon Associates record when you click an affiliate link so that a purchase can be attributed to this site. They do not tell us who you are.
- Embedded content such as Pinterest pins, YouTube videos or Instagram posts may collect data as if you had visited that service directly.
How we use your information
- To run and maintain the site and keep it secure.
- To reply to your messages and manage comments.
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To show advertising, some of which may be tailored to your interests, and to earn affiliate commissions that fund the site.
- To detect, prevent and investigate spam, abuse and security incidents.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Legal bases for processing (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
Where data protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: your consent, for non-essential cookies, personalised advertising and any newsletter; our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the site, responding to you and earning revenue through advertising and affiliate links, balanced against your rights; performance of a contract, where you ask us to do something for you; and legal obligation, where we must keep or disclose information by law. Where we rely on consent you may withdraw it at any time, which does not affect processing that happened before.
Advertising
We may work with third-party advertising networks and services, which may include Google AdSense, Mediavine, Raptive or similar providers. These companies use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites, to limit how often you see an ad, and to measure ad performance. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at adssettings.google.com, and from many other networks at optout.aboutads.info (United States), youradchoices.ca (Canada) and youronlinechoices.eu (Europe). Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant. Visitors in the EEA, UK and some US states will be shown a consent tool before advertising cookies are set, and can change their choice at any time through the link in the site footer.
Affiliate links
Bye Beige is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate networks use cookies to attribute the purchase. Our full Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure explains how we choose what to recommend.
Comments
When you leave a comment, your comment and its metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically rather than held in a moderation queue. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it; the Gravatar privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy. After approval, your profile picture is visible to the public next to your comment. Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Who we share information with
- Service providers that help us run the site: web hosting, content delivery, email delivery, analytics, security and spam filtering, and advertising and affiliate partners. They may only use your information to provide their services to us.
- Legal and safety reasons: if required by law, court order or a government request, or to protect the rights, property or safety of Bye Beige, our readers or others.
- Business transfers: if the site is sold or transferred, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who will be bound by this policy.
We do not sell your personal information for money. Some advertising cookie activity may be considered “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under certain US state laws; you can opt out as described under “Advertising” and “Your rights”.
International transfers
We are based in Pakistan and use service providers in the United States and elsewhere. Your information may therefore be processed outside the country where you live, including in countries whose data protection laws differ from yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or a provider’s recognised certification.
How long we keep information
We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above: contact messages for up to two years after our last exchange; comments and their metadata indefinitely while the comment is published; analytics data for the retention period set in the tool (typically 14 to 26 months); server logs for a short period for security. We may keep information longer if the law requires it.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland
You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to our processing, to receive a copy in a portable format, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).
If you are a California resident (and residents of other US states with similar laws)
You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request deletion or correction; to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for targeted advertising; to limit the use of sensitive personal information (we do not collect it); and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To opt out of sharing for targeted advertising, use the consent tool or the ad-network opt-out links above; we also honour Global Privacy Control signals where our tools support them.
How to exercise your rights
Send a request through the Contact page. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. You may use an authorised agent where the law allows.
Children
The site is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures, including HTTPS encryption, access controls and regular software updates, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Links to other websites
The site links to other websites, including retailers and the sources we cite. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices; please read their policies.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it last changed, and significant changes will be announced on the site. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Contact
Questions about this policy, or requests regarding your information, can be sent through our Contact page.
