About Bye Beige

Hi, I’m Ayesha Jamil, and Bye Beige is the site I wished existed when I started decorating my own home with color.

Every time I looked for ideas, I found the same thing: rooms in seven shades of greige, “pops of color” that meant one cushion, and advice written for people with a designer and a renovation budget. I wanted to know how to paint a whole room pink without it looking like a nursery, which greens actually work in the warm afternoon light my home gets, and how to do any of it in a space I couldn’t knock walls out of. So I started working it out myself, one room and one mistake at a time, and this site is where I write it all down.

What Bye Beige is

Bye Beige is a home decorating site for people who are done with beige. It covers color and paint, decorating room by room, the styles that use color well (dopamine decor, maximalism, eclectic, whimsical and more), wallpaper, pattern and the pieces you layer on top, and, close to my heart, decorating small spaces and rentals where you can’t change everything and still want the room to feel like yours.

The site’s name is its whole opinion. Neutral rooms are fine. They are just not the only option, and the people who want something else deserve guides as careful as the ones the beige crowd gets.

Who I am

I’m not a trained interior designer, and I won’t pretend to be one. I’m someone who decorates her own home, with color, on a normal budget, in rooms I rent or share and can’t fully control. I live in Pakistan, and most of what I’ve learned has come from testing paint on my own walls, moving furniture around more times than I’d like to admit, thrifting, making things, and reading far more about color than is probably healthy. When I write about something I’ve actually done, I say so. When I’m writing from research rather than hands-on experience, I say that too.

How I work

  • Research first. Before writing a single guide for this site, I spent months going through what people actually search for when they want color at home, thousands of searches across every room, style and situation, so the articles here answer the questions people are really asking rather than the ones that are easy to write.
  • Honest about experience. Rooms and projects photographed in my own home are labelled as mine. Images from brands, designers or other sources are credited and linked. I don’t present someone else’s room as my own.
  • Specific over vague. Where a guide mentions a paint, it names the brand and the color. Where it mentions a pattern or a product, it tells you what to look for and what to avoid. “Add a pop of color” is not advice.
  • Independent recommendations. Some links on the site are affiliate links, and the site carries advertising; that is how it stays free. Nobody pays to be recommended, and I say which recommendations come from my own use. The full details are in my Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure.
  • Updated, and corrected. Paint lines change, products disappear, and I get things wrong occasionally. Articles show their last-updated date, and corrections are noted in the article rather than quietly edited away.

Where to start

If you’re new here, start with Dopamine Decor, the idea the whole site is built around; then Color Palettes if you need a scheme, or Renter-Friendly if you have a landlord to think about.

Say hello

I read every message. If you have a question about a guide, a room you’re stuck on, or you’ve spotted a mistake, send it through the Contact page. You’ll also find Bye Beige on Pinterest, where most of these ideas live as pins you can save.
